Trent Boult and Kyle Jamieson have marked their return to New Zealand’s One-Day International squad, for the series against England, New Zealand Cricket announced on Wednesday. This will be New Zealand’s penultimate series before the 2023 50-over world cup, set to be played in India starting early October.

Boult, who has featured in 99 ODIs and been a part of the team in the last two editions of the 50-over world cup in which New Zealand reached the finals, played his last ODI in September last year. The left-armer has picked 187 wickets at an average of 23.97.

Jamieson, who was recovering from a back injury, hasn’t played international cricket since 2022 – with the last ODI appearance coming in April last year, against Netherlands at home.

All-rounder Michael Bracewell was unavailable for selection as he continues to recover following surgery on his ruptured achilles in June. Mark Chapman and Jimmy Neesham will miss the four-game series as they await the births of their first children, while Ish Sodhi is also returning home after the T20I series against England to spend time with his family.

Meanwhile, Kane Williamson will link up with the side during the England tour to train and continue his rehabilitation following surgery on his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

ODI Squad: Tom Latham (Capt), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Will Young

Speaking on the selection, head coach Gary Stead said, “England has been an impressive white ball side for quite some time and we’re excited to be taking them on at home on the eve of the World Cup,” he said. “We’ve obviously had a history of great games against them and I’m sure the four matches will provide all the usual drama and excitement.

“It should be a really competitive series and I know the group will be looking forward to returning to play at the likes of The Oval and Lord’s once again.”

Stead welcomed the return of Boult and Jamieson and stated that the final 15 for the world cup would be named in early September.

“We’re delighted to include Kyle in this squad alongside his earlier selection for the T20 squads to play the UAE and England. He’s been working extremely hard on his rehabilitation following back surgery and we’re looking forward to seeing him back playing on the international stage.

“It’s also great to welcome Trent back into our ODI unit as he begins his preparation towards the World Cup in India.”

Following this four-match series, New Zealand will travel to Bangladesh in late September to play a three-match series.

New Zealand squad for T20I series against UAE and England

Pacers Blair Tickner and Ben Lister were included in New Zealand’s T20I squad for the three-match series against UAE, scheduled to be played next week. The move came after Lockie Ferguson and Henry Shipley withdrew their participation from the series.

Shipley suffered a back injury while playing for Sussex in the UK, and will undergo further assessment back in New Zealand. Ferguson, on the other hand, has signed up with Welsh Fire to participate in the ongoing season of The Hundred, which already includes 10 New Zealand players.

Tim Southee, who is a part of London Spirits, will play the last game of the league stage for the team before linking up with the national team in the UAE.

T20I Squad: Tim Southee (capt), Finn Allen, Adi Ashok, Chad Bowes, Mark Chapman, Dane Cleaver, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Dean Foxcroft, Matt Henry, Ben Lister, Kyle Jamieson, Cole McConchie, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tim Seifert, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, Will Young

The first group of T20 squad players and support staff will depart from New Zealand for the UAE this Saturday, while Lister will arrive directly from the UK where he is currently playing club cricket. Meanwhile, Tickner will travel on Monday pending the birth of his first child.

The same squad will head to the UK where they will play England in a four-match T20I series following two warm-up games in Worcester and Bristol.
